Notes:
The painter J.E. Akkeringa was born on the Indonesian island of Bangka. He was a student at the Art Academies in Rotterdam and The Hague. Akkeringa’s work can easily be recognized by its cheerful natural style and skilful composition. The artist often painted mothers and children on the beach, in the dunes or in the garden, but he also made net-makers and flower still lifes, for example. Akkeringa’s work is held by several important collections and museums, among others, the Kroller Muller museum, the Hague municipal museum and the Boymans van Beuningen museum.
