Notes:
Hart Nibbrig (Amsterdam 1866-Laren 1915) was born as the second child in a family of five children. Ferdinand’s drawing talent was noticed at an early age. It is therefore a logical consequence that he became a student of the Quellinus drawing school in 1881. He then studied at the National Academy of Visual Arts (1883-1888), both in Amsterdam.
In his first years as a painter, Nibbrig therefore also worked in an impressionist style of the Amsterdam school. After this he left for Paris to complete his studies at the Académie Julien. He met Van Gogh and Seurat, among others, and mainly due to Seurat’s influence he turned away from Amsterdam impressionism to become proficient in pointillism with his stippling technique.
Hart Nibbrig introduced luminism and pointillism in the Netherlands, which is characterized by bright colors and abundant light. He periodically painted in Algeria, Germany and on Panorama Vlieland and during the summers he spent a lot of time in Zoutelande, Zeeland. Here he produced a number of landscapes in which he shows his technique of painting with great clarity and fine pointillism.
