Notes
Everhardus Koster was a Dutch painter. He originally intended to become a marine engineer, but his drawing teacher recognized his talent for painting. He studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague and in Frankfurt am Main.
Under the guidance of B.J. van Hove, he developed into an esteemed painter and watercolorist of seascapes and river views. He visited various German cities before returning to the Netherlands in 1848 and settling in Amsterdam. After his studies, he worked from Amsterdam, where he became a member of the Royal Academy in 1852.
He frequently traveled to England, where his work sold well. Works by Everhardus Koster are held in the collections of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem.
