Notes

Mikhail Shaposnikov was born in Kharkov (Ukraine) the 25th of September 1909. In 1929 he started his studies at the Kharkov Institute of Art, from which he graduated in 1933. Later he became the director of this Institute. Shaposhnikov was a member of the Union of Artists since 1938 and participated in many exhibitions in Russia and abroad, and he had a personal exhibitions in Kharkov in 1996 and in Kiev in 1997. He specialised in still-lifes and historic paintings, often depicting the Second World War.
