Notes

Henri Pailler was a member of the ”École de Crozant’. The Crozant School is named after the valley of Crozant, at the northern limit of the department of Creuse, France. It consists of a host of landscape painters who worked from 1830 to 1950 on the banks of the river Grande Creuse and the surroundings. ‘Ecole de Crozant’ School is a convenient name to designate all the painters who found inspiration in the Creuse valleys and painted after nature there. Often their works are very bright and impressionistic. In little more than a century, nearly 500 painters frequented the region. Other examples are Jules Dupré (1811-1889), Claude Monet (1840-1926), Armand Guillaumin (1841-1927), Maurice Leloir (1853-1940), Alfred Smith (1854-1932), Paul Madeline (1863-1920) and many others.
