Willem Maris was a multi-talented artist using painting, drawing, etching and water colour techniques. He received his first lessons from his elder brothers Jacob and Matthijs.
In Oosterbeek, the ‘Dutch Barbizon’, and in Wolfheze, he developed his landscape painting skills. In 1865, he traveled with Bernard Blommers through the Rhine States and Norway. Works by this artist can be found in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; National Gallery, London and the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.
