Expertise

Mr F. Meijer ( RKD The Hague) in a letter dd. March 2001, where he suggested a date of circa 1632, based on comparison of the theme of the jewel box and metal chain, that return in paintings of that era; following up on the letter of 2001, he now, after inspection in the flesh on 22 Feb. 2014, stated in a letter of March 2014, that the he is now convinced that the date of 1652 on the painting is original. The jewel box is a motif that was used in a much earlier date, but that has not stopped him from repeating it much later. The way the oysters are depicted fits in very well with other examples of his work of the 1650s. ( f.i. RKD image 105571, 1655).
