He is one of the up-and-coming young artists in Beijing, displaying great adventurous spirit. His landscapes depict the countryside of northern China in all its vastness and yet gentleness. His paintings are painstakingly executed in a pointillist style, with thousands of tiny dots illustrating the beauty and serenity of clouds in the sky or the changing colours of autumn evoking a yearning for nature.

Born in 1957, Wang Xiao-guang graduated from the Art Department of Beijing Normal University with a Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in oil painting. After graduation, he began teaching at the Beijing Institute of Education.

In 1987, his works were shown in the first Exhibition of Chinese Oil Paintings held in Shanghai. In 1993 his paintings were selected for both the Biennial Exhibition of Oil Paintings, and the Annual Exhibition of Oil Paintings in China. His painting “Mountains” was singled out for display at the First Exhibition of Chinese Landscape Paintings. In April 1993, another painting entitled “Trees in the Sunlight” was selected for a nationwide Youth Art Exhibition organized by the International Art Palace.

After 1993, Wang decided not to participate in any more government exhibitions, and started to explore his own landscape paintings. In 1993, Wang and three other artists held a joint exhibition at the art gallery of the Beijing International Arts Centre. In 1995, in partnership with other like-minded artists, he organized an exhibition entitled “Breeze of Beijing” in the National Museum of Fine Arts, in which he displayed his paintings “Autumn in the Mountains” and “The Valley”. Wang Xiao-Guang is an active member of the Chinese Artists Cooperative Association.
