Notes
In 1849, Jongkind divided his time between Paris and Holland where he often stayed with his mother in Maassluis, as well as with friends such as Andreas Schelfhout. This realistic view is painted outside his mother’s home, radiating an atmosphere that is surprisingly transparent and bright; effective use of light and the application of small patches of vivid colour suggest the intensity of light.
