Notes

After working as a decorative painteer for the famous porcelain factory Rozenburg in
The Hague and for the faience industry in Gouda, Jansen settled as an independent artist in
Blaricum in 1908. He had always admired the painters of Hague School and especially
Jacob Maris, and painted seascapes, landscapes and beaches, often with intimate scenes
of peasant life and fishermen.

He was renowned for his very subtle use of colour, using all the nuances of white, green and
grey to express the atmosphere of a landscape and weather effects.

Provenance

from a private Dutch collection, where it has stayed for at least 25 years.
