Notes

pastel is a rather unusual medium for maritime works, Baur was almost unique in this.
Nicolaas’ father was the South German portrait painter Hendricus Johan Adrianus Baur.
He used to practice the pastel technique frequently. Baur was based in Harlingen,
Friesland. He became the most acclaimed marine painter of his generation.
