Notes
Monique was the daughter of the physician and composer Admiral Jean Cras. She was pupil of the Paris School of Fine Arts, she travelled in North Africa in 1937-38, spending several months in the Hoggar. Thanks to another travel grant, she explored French West Africa in 1938. Resident of the Casa Velasquez, she discovered Spain and Spanish Morocco in 1939-40, while another prize, won in 1942, took her back to Algeria and the Hoggar. From 1948 to 1975, she was professor of drawings in colleges and schools of the City of Paris. Both the state of France and the City of Paris bought her works.
