Waalko Jans Dingemans Jr. (born in Gorinchem 28-08-1912, died in Westerschouwen 21-04-1991) was a painter of figures, landscapes (as genre), cityscapes, still lifes, portraits and self-portraits. He studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (Amsterdam) and the National Institute for the Training of Art Teachers. He was a student of Huib Luns and Hendrik Jan Wolter. Waalko Jans Dingemans followed in the footsteps of his father, the artist Waalko Jans Dingemans sr. (1873- 1925).
Note on the artwork:
In the 1820s and 1830s, the Zulu clan, one of the Nguni ethnic groups, joined with the neighbouring Natal Nguni to form a Zulu empire. Traditionally grain farmers, the Zulu also kept large herds of cattle. Despite the fact that the Zulu had a highly organised military society, the white settlers, after prolonged warfare, wrestled grazing and water resources away from them and annexed their land.
