This is a beautiful and rare view along the beach looking towards Katwijk. The oval shape is original, a fashionable size and shape during the years 1640 to 1642. Van Goyen rarely prepared his panel before applying his paint; it was important to him to integrate both the structure and original colour of the panel with his subject matter.
