Notes

For the identification of the painter Abraham, son of Johannes Abrahamsz (1622), see G. van der Most, ‘Beerstraten, Kunstschilders uit de 17e eeuw’, Bert Post, Noorden, 2003. This painting was once reproduced as an egraving by Zentener (see J.B.P.Lebrun, ‘Gallerie des Peintres Flamands, Hollandais et Allemands’, Paris 1792 & 1796). In the late 14th century Wognum, grown rich through the fishing ‘industry’, received city rights, albeit only for a few decades.
